Welcome to 2013!

Today starts the newly scheduled blog series from Camp Kesem Mizzou that will be updated twice a month! We hope you enjoy following us as we prepare for our second edition of camp this summer! Here is what we have been up to lately:

Camper/Counselor Reunion!

Just before Mizzou took its winter break, we were able to have our Camper/Counselor reunion! Campers and their families all drove in from around Missouri to hang out for an afternoon and catch up with each other. Megasaurus and Mr. B, our Camper Care coordinators, put on a very entertaining event filled with crafts, tasty food, and tons of camp songs. They even had a pie-eating contest where Steak and Bobo Fett took first prize out of the rest of the counselor/camper parings! It was a great afternoon for our Camp Kesem family to reconnect and we all are definitely more excited for our upcoming spring reunion!

Campus SEC fundraiser

In order to ring in the new semester, Camp Kesem Mizzou teamed up with our friends at Campus SEC Bar & Grill for a fundraising night during the first week of school. We had a fantastic turnout at the event and raised $1,21o! It was so great to see the Mizzou community come and show their support!

“Why do I Kesem?”

I “Kesem” so that I can bring magic and hope to the lives of families affected by cancer. I know from personal experience what it is like to have a parent with cancer. I cannot imagine going through it at such a young age. Being with these kids for a week and watching them transform during that time was the best experience of my life.  As Camper Care Coordinator, I get to keep in touch with the families of campers and plan reunions for everyone. Our fall reunion was a great success and only a glimpse of how amazing this year’s camp will be. Being a part of Camp Kesem has truly changed my life. My mother passed away a few weeks after camp. I would not have been able to handle it with the strength and courage that I did without the love and support of my Camp Kesem family.

Hope everyone’s year has started off well!

Peace, Love, Kesem,

The Coordinators
