Our Mission:

To provide children affected by a parent’s cancer with a supportive, lifelong camp community that recognizes and understands their unique needs.

To empower college students to make a difference and build invaluable leadership skills by developing and managing every aspect of their Camp Kesem chapter.

Our Purpose:

Provide opportunity for campers to build self-esteem and gain support from their peers facing similar challenges. The students of the University of Virginia work hard to create a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for the campers.

Give Camp Kesem campers and counselors an experience they will never forget through the creation of long lasting memories and friendships.

Our Upcoming 2013 Camp:

Camp will be held at Camp Brethren Woods in Keezletown, VA from August 11th-August 17th! Please apply! Click on “Register a Camper” on the upper right of the portion and choose the University of Virginia when selecting during the application process. We are so excited for this new campsite because we are able to expand and spread the magic everywhere! Camp History:

Camp Kesem at the University of Virginia was founded in 2005 by three UVA and UNC students.  The camp is completely organized, run, and operated by a number of incredible and caring student volunteers.  Professional counselors and nurses are also on staff for the entirety of the camp as well.  Camp Kesem at the University of Virginia is currently preparing for our 6th camp, which will take place in August 2011!  Our first camp, with 16 campers and 10 counselors, nearly doubled in 2007 with 28 campers and 17 counselors, and increased to 53 campers in 2010.  Camp Kesem at UVA has grown since then and will now be held at Brethren Woods in Keezletown, VA.  An ACA accredited camp, Brethren Woods is a caring community committed to empowering, encouraging, and educating campers.  Camp Kesem is proud to be affiliated with a camp with similar goals.  Campers will enjoy a waterfront, a pool, a nature center, a rock-climbing wall, an arts and crafts center, and countless outdoor activities!  For more information, please look at their website.
