To support children through and beyond their parent's cancer with innovative, fun-filled programs that foster a lasting community.

To ensure that every child touched by a parent's cancer is never alone.

Camp Kesem is a nationwide community, driven by passionate college student leaders, that supports children through and beyond their parent’s cancer. A program of Kesem, Camp Kesem operates over 70 free summer camps in 34 states for children ages 6 to 16 who have been touched by a parent’s cancer. This camping experience has a lasting impact on children by providing them a peer-support network that understands their unique needs, builds confidence and strengthens their communication skills. In 2015, Camp Kesem served over 5,000 children coast-to-coast - all funded by generous donations from individuals and corporate support.

Our History

Camp Kesem at VCU was founded in 2013 and supports children in the Richmond community by providing a week-long summer camp experience and year-long peer support. Camp Kesem at VCU is operated by 15 student volunteers and this year plans to serve 60 campers ages 6-16 per year. In Camp Kesem at VCU's first year, VCU students effectively raised $28,000 and held a five-day camp with approximately 30 campers.  In 2016 we raised $60,000+ and held a seven-day camp with 46 campers.  In 2017, Camp Kesem at VCU hopes to raise $65,000 and send 60 kids to camp for seven days.
