Meet the Team
Hello World! My name is Bambi and I am a third year Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior major. This will be my third year of camp and I am beyond excited to be a director with the Oso! When I am not doing Kesem related things, I like to spend time with my furry friends in the majestic outdoors. You can often find me prancing through the arboretum or munching on some juicy berries at the local Farmer’s Market. I often get mistaken as a camper but I use that to my advantage to snag a couple piggyback rides here and there. My favorite camp activity is Messy Olympics where you see me ungracefully lather up in mustard and ketchup. I can’t wait till CK2017 where I can sing camp songs, eat s’mores and create memories with the amazing campers.
Hey everyone! My name is Oso and I am beyond excited to be one of this year's co-directors! I'm a 5th year Psychology major and although this is my last year of Kesem I absolutely cannot wait to help create magic for our campers :). When I'm not keseming you can find me doing handstands or singing camp songs to myself. I'm already counting down the days until camp, when I get to experience another of the most amazing times of my life!
Hi there! My name is Clover and I am a third year biomedical engineering major minoring in history. This will be my second year as treasurer and I can’t wait for another amazing fundraising year. My favorite thing about Camp Kesem, besides the silly songs and dances, is that Kesem is a way for us to help turn something as negative as cancer into a fun filled week long camp where friends become family. Having been affected by cancer myself, I love that I am able to help the campers talk about what they have experienced by providing a safe, trusting environment where they can be themselves. Outside of Kesem, I love to read, bake/cook, and go on spontaneous adventures with friends. I can’t wait to go back to camp next year and spend time with all of our wonderful campers and counselors, especially to sing Razzle Dazzle and Princess Pat!
I’m Splash, and this is my fourth and final year working with Camp Kesem. I am thankful for every day that I get to spend as a part of this incredible community. At school, I study Genetics and Computer Science. Besides Kesem and school, I love spending time outdoors and playing basketball (they called me “soup kitchen” in high school because I dish out so many assists). I am thrilled to be joining Flash and Beatz on the Operations team for the coming year and planning two weeks of camp with them. If you have any questions about programming at camp, or would just like to chat, feel free to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org!!
Woah! Didn't see ya there! I'm Beatz, and this is my second year working with Camp Kesem. Kesem has given me the great opportunity to do something great for the community, and I've been lucky to meet some pretty awesome people along the way. Working with everyone, whether it has been campers, counselors, advisory board members you name it, has been such a pleasure. At school, I'm a Biomedical Engineering major. Outside of camp and school, I enjoy just about anything outdoors, and am a big-time Bay Area sports fan (could be where the name Beatz came from).
Hi everyone! My names Flash, after the famous DC superhero and alter ego Berry Allen. When I’m not fighting crime and absolutely killin’ the game against my arch nemesis Zoom (red is way more flattering than yellow am I right?) you can find me hiking, updating my insta game, or surfing the net for the next must have pair of socks. I am currently a third year at UC Davis studying Biological Sciences and I can confidently say that joining Camp Kesem has been the best choice of my college career thus far. Working with my family to ensure camp is off the hook has been one of the most fun and rewarding experiences of my life. After getting the chance to experience how amazing camp was this summer I was so excited to be a part of the Operations team and help make the week of camp not only fun, but a life changing experience for Kesem counselors and campers to bond as one family. Camp this summer is gonna be redonculous not only because of the genius of Splash and Beatz, but also because of all the amazing coordinators and counselors working tirelessly through out the entire year!! So excited!! WOOT WOOT!!
Oh hey there, Clumsy here! I am a second year Cognitive Neuroscience major and this is my second year in Kesem! There are no words to explain how much this organization means to me; when I am not doing Kesem stuff I am usually studying, running, or eating. The three things I love the most include my family, Kesem, and chemistry. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it weren’t for my extraordinary family and I wouldn’t been having such an amazing college experience if it weren’t for my Kesem family. Lastly, I just really love chemistry if you can’t tell by my picture. I was going to tell a Sodium and Hydrogen pun but NaH. I am super excited to be this year’s Outreach Coordinator alongside one of my greatest friends Tink! I’m already counting down the days till I get to go back to this magical place we call camp.
What's up, It's Tink! I am a second year schooler and Kesemer, studying intricate make-up design as seen in my picture above (sike! that was my alter ego at the newbie show during camp). I am actually studying bio-psychology and planning to enter the field of rehabilitation sports medicine. While I love sports and being active (mainly hiking and hot yoga), I equally love food!!! Trying new restaurants and cuisines is hands down my favorite thing to do in my free time (especially if there is dark chocolate or avocados involved). As much as I love trying new food, though, I will tell you now: syrup, ketchup, and chocolate sauce (AKA: messy olympics) was just a little too exotic for my taste buds. As you can tell, I bring up Kesem in nearly every sentence I speak because it's just THAT MAGICAL. Although camp is only 1 week a year, I know Kesem is for life, and that's something I'm unbelievably grateful for. Counting down the days until camp!!
Hey there! I'm Lilypad, this is my second year at UC Davis and as a Camp Kesem counselor. I am super excited to be a part of the coordinator team this year and can't wait to help raise all the money that will fund another amazing week of camp. My father passed away from stomach cancer when I was nine years old. Thankfully, my mom had heard about Camp Kesem at Stanford a little after my father was diagnosed. I was six when I first experienced camp and since then it has been my favorite week of the year. Kesem truly changed my life. I grew emotionally stronger knowing I had an entire family of people who knew how I felt and could help me cope with my fathers sickness and death. Returning as a counselor to Kesem was one of my biggest dreams and I am so grateful to be able to spend my 12th week of Kesem at UC Davis again this summer. Other thank Kesem, I love spending time with my family in San Jose, hiking/swimming/playing/eating outdoors and traveling all around the world. I can't wait for another best week of my life at Kesem.
Hey everyone! My name is Hobbes, after the comic series Calvin and Hobbes, and I am currently a 4th year at UC Davis double majoring in History and International Relations! However, it is only going to be my second year here at UC Davis. I transferred as a third year from the University of Oregon and even though they have a Camp Kesem there, I had never heard about it or joined for that matter, until I came to UC Davis. This coming year is going to be my second year of Camp Kesem and I am not able to put my excitement or love for this organization into words that would come close to doing it justice. It has been my best college decision to join this organization and it is a life changing experience. At UC Davis when im not doing Camp related things, you can usually find me in the library writing essays, looking for my next adventure, or talking and thinking about Camp Kesem anyway. I am so so so excited for this coming year of Camp and being able to work towards it with my fantastic partner-in-development Lily Pad!
HII!!!! I'M LULU!!!! (Contrary to popular belief, my name was not inspired by Lulu Lemon). Camp Kesem stole my heart when I was accepted into the organization as a little freshmen here at UC Davis. My passion for helping the cancer community stemmed when I was 16 years old - when my dad was diagnosed with cancer and branched out when I was 18 years old - when he lost his battle. I write about my cancer-related experiences on my blog, www.copingwithcancer.org. I'm a fourth year Economics major and Professional Writing minor. I love to shop and practice yoga in my free time - both are a great workout for me.
What's up everybody!? My name is Slider and I'm a 4th year Evolution and Ecology major. What's that? You want to know more about me? Well, if you insist. My big passions (other than Kesem) are the outdoors, hiking, running, and pretty much any sport imaginable. I'm stoked to be a part of the coord team this year, and to absolutely rock Make the Magic with the ever so dedicated and talented Lulu. I've only been involved with Kesem less than a year, but it has quickly become my favorite thing in the world. I can't wait to Make some Magic this year!
Whadddupp friends! My name is Pickles and I'm a 3rd year Biology major! This is going to be my third year in Kesem and I am so pumped to be a Volunteer Coordinator with my homie Buckets. Kesem is easily the best thing I've done in college and I already can't wait for camp again! From cabin chats to gokarts to finding syrup in my nose a week later, my favorite part of camp is everything. When I'm not hanging out with all my kesem pals or eating pickles, I enjoy playing with puppies, taking nature walks, being cooler than buckets, and making frequent visits to Yoloberry. Thanks for reading! I am SO beyond excited for this year of Kesem!
My name is Buckets and I'm a second year student studying how to be Awesome with a minor in Camp Songs! It's been said that I make 11 out of every 10 shots I take. If you want to see if that's true, just meet me at the courts. I have a growing collection of bucket hats and you can always catch me wearing one! Besides balling out on the blacktop, my hobbies include backpacking, hiking, and playing basketball. I'm excited for camp and to meet all the new face! Stay Golden Pony Boys
My name is Sandlot but everyone calls me George. Camp Kesem is the coolest thing I do in my life and I do some pretty cool things. When I'm not a camp I enjoy biking on stationary bikes, eating raw vegetables and calling up my ex-girlfriends. My better looking and more successful roommate Mowgli once called me, "the best thing that ever happened to the camp kesem coord team". It was both the nicest thing he has ever said to me and a blatant exaggeration but nevertheless I am extremely excited to enter my senior year on the top of the Camp Kesem power hierarchy (with the essential responsibility of posting Instagram pictures and ordering t-shirts). It's a dream I've always had, but one in all honesty I was unsure I would ever realize. I'm pretty sure this isn’t what they were looking for when they asked me to write this thing but it's the best I got. Can't wait for camp.
Hi I’m Sprout!! I am a second year at UC Davis and absolutely stoked to be Public Relations Coordinator with Sandlot for Camp Kesem this year! When I joined Kesem my first year it completely transformed my college experience in the best way possible. I love everything from playing on our Kesem IM ultimate frisbee team, to meeting the most inspiring kids in the world at my first week of camp this past summer. When I am not Keseming you can find me hiking, running, making Spotify playlists, and dancing around my room.
Tuna's the name, CIT training's the game. This will be my third year of Kesem, and I couldn't be more excited to be working with Old Spice as co-CIT coordinator. We aim to prepare the incoming CITs to tackle the challenges and experience the joys of transitioning away from the camper role. I look forward to seeing them seize their opportunity to create Kesem magic themselves, as well as gain skills that will prepare them for their post-high school lives. Outside of camp, I play rugby on the club team at Davis. I'm studying economics and plan to pursue a career in state politics after graduation.
Hey! Hey! Hey! I go by the name of Old Spice and I am currently a senior double majoring in Film Studies and Communication. This will be my third and final year in Kesem and I am super ecstatic to be one of this years CIT coordinators along with my P.I.F (Partner in Fun), Big Tuna! When I transferred to Davis two years ago and found out that there was a Camp Kesem on the campus, I just knew that I had to be a part of it. Being an individual who had lost a parent to cancer made me wan to join and help work with children who were going through similar situations that I did. While I originally went into Kesem with that mindset, what I did not realize was that the campers, counselors and the rest of the Kesem family would actually end up helping me way more than I thought that I could possibly help them. When I am not Keseming, you can probably catch me maybe doing some stand-up comedy, watching The Office, trying out for the Warriors D-league team, or rapping all of the lyrics along to Slick Rick’s Children’s Story. My favorite Camp song is the Great Big Wizard and I am extremely excited for another year of Kesem magic!
