Camp Kesem Stony Brook University
Established Spring 2013
Kesem (n.): magic; the ability to change a life; an agent of growth; the unique power that transforms kids into Camp Kesem Campers
Camp Kesem Stony Brook is a 501(c)3 non-profit, student-run organization that provides a free, week-long summer camp for children (ages 6-16) affected by a parent’s cancer.
Our counselors bring the leadership skills and sense of community they develop at Stony Brook University straight to our camp, allowing our campers to develop confidence in a safe environment, while also getting a heavy dose of the Kesem magic that drives our compassionate and fun-filled camp. This magic extends far beyond our week of camp, as lifelong friendships and bonds are created and nurtured.
Rooted in community involvement and support from the beginning, Camp Kesem Stony Brook got its start as part of a voting campaign. The LIVESTRONG Foundation chose Camp Kesem as the beneficiary of its annual Community Impact Project grant in the Spring of 2013. Although numerous universities competed to earn the grant, only twelve new chapters could be created throughout the nation. Stony Brook University secured the most online votes in the Northeast region, securing CKSB’s place in the Camp Kesem family.
