Senior Spotlight: Ribbon
Hey Kesem! I’m Kelly, or Ribbon, and I’m from Gurnee, Ill. I will graduate next month with a degree in communication sciences and disorders and then continue on to get my masters in speech language pathology at the University of Iowa.
I joined Camp Kesem UW-Madison my freshman year after hearing about it from an older friend involved with CKIU. My friend knew UW-Madison was starting a chapter so she encouraged me to get involved. This will be my fourth summer at camp, and I have been the outreach coordinator on the CKUW executive board for 3 years.
Kesem has been a very meaningful and memorable part of my college experience. I learned what it means to be truly passionate about something and how to display that passion. Camp is one of the few things I feel comfortable talking to anyone about, and through the stories of our amazing campers, I can share how wonderful this organization is. I will take the lessons of leadership, passion and organization I have learned from my involvement in CKUW with me in the future. I met some of my closest college friends through camp and I know our friendships will continue even after I leave Madison.
As I start to transition to my new life in Iowa, I will miss all of the counselors and campers. I will miss check-in and seeing all the excitement and anticipation on campers’ and counselors’ faces. I will miss the sigh of relief knowing that the hard work of the past year is all worth it when we see the kids’ smiling faces.
Looking forward to camp,
