Scoring For Good
Scoring for Good is a program of Camp Kesem, where professional athletes show their support of children affected by a parent’s cancer by visiting camps, generating awareness, and dedicating their season to Camp Kesem.
Scoring For Good is endorsed by the NFL Players Association as part of One Team, One Community.
We are so excited to bring back Scoring For Good for a second NFL season!
NFL players that have committed to our 2014 program include:
Team: Buffalo Bills
This is EJ’s second season of Scoring For Good and we are so excited to have him again! As Quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, EJ has pledged to donate to $500 for every touchdown he makes this season. For EJ, Camp Kesem’s mission hits close to home. He relates directly to the experience of children served by Camp Kesem because his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. “When my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, my life changed. Camp Kesem’s mission is one that I support deeply as I can relate directly to each child they help. I am honored to be part of Scoring For Good and this larger effort to recognize kids affected by a parent’s cancer,” said EJ.
Team: Washington Redskins
Position: Offensive Tackle
This is also Tyler’s second season of Scoring For Good! As Offensive Tackle for the Washington Redskins, Tyler and his foundation, Tyler Kids Outreach, will donate funds to send kids to Camp Kesem’s new camp in Colorado this season. “Camp Kesem is doing amazing work, helping an often overlooked population of kids,” said Tyler, “Getting a chance to play and have fun is so important for children, and so for this season, as I score pancakes, I will help send kids to Camp Kesem. My true passion is helping kids realize their potential and so I am thrilled to join Scoring For Good.”
Team: Detroit Lions
Glover Quin is a starting safety for the Detroit Lions. After graduating from the University of New Mexico, Quin was drafted in 2009 by the Houston Texans where he holds the franchise record for most interceptions in a game by a single player. In 2013, Quin signed with the Detroit Lions as free agent. He has pledged to donate $500 for each interception he tallies this season to sending more kids to Camp Kesem.
Team: Indianapolis Colts
Position: Offensive Tackle
Anthony Castonzo is entering his 4th season with the Indianapolis Colts. After being drafted in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft he has become the cornerstone of the Colts offensive line. Off field, Anthony has spent significant time in the local community participating in programs such as the Colts Charity shopping spree, Riley Hospital visits and assisting with playground builds. ” I’ve seen how cancer can affect not only the people afflicted but their families and friends as well [...] and for that reason I want to donate my first appearance this season to Camp Kesem and to send a kid to camp,” said Anthony.
The Scoring For Good Mobile App
In concert with the launch of the 2014 Scoring For Good program, Camp Kesem is also pleased to announce a completely new version of the Scoring For Good mobile app, available as a free download in iTunes and Google Play. The app allows users to test their quarterback skills on the football field against their friends and Scoring For Good’s athletes. With the app’s innovative technology, users replicate the motion of throwing a football by using the device as the ball and seeing how far they can “throw” passes down the field. Users can sign in through Facebook to compete against friends and purchase extra yards and boosters. The Scoring For Good app helps promote Camp Kesem’s Scoring for Good program and its players.
