About Us

Ekene “Katniss” Ezenwa

Howdy! My name is Katniss (because of my sweet archery moves) and I am a junior Health and Exercise Science major at University of Oklahoma. This is my second year working with Camp Kesem and first year as the director, which I absolutely love! My hobbies are watching Netflix, running, hanging out with my friends, and traveling. My favorite part about Camp Kesem is the new family I have found throughout my fellow coordinators, counselors, and campers! Getting to hang out with these kids is the highlight of my summer, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I cannot wait for CK 2014!

Shelby “Squirt” Teel

Hi everyone, I’m Squirt! I am a Junior, majoring in Chemical Biosciences at the University of Oklahoma and this is my second year being involved with Camp Kesem! Last year I was a Community Outreach Coordinator, and this is my first year as Director. Outside of Camp Kesem, I am a lover of college football, mexican food, Harry Potter, & memorizing movie quotes! I love Camp Kesem because it gives kids a chance to be a kid again, which they all deserve! I cannot wait for our second year of camp this summer, I know it is going to be incredible!

Community Outreach:

Clara “Tiger Lily” Tang

Hello hello! My name is Lil Tig (aka Tig, aka Tigerlily, aka El Tigre) and I am currently in my third year of studies in Chemical Biosciences/Pre-Med. This is my second year with Camp Kesem, but my first to be working specifically with Community Outreach. I am so excited to be working in this position because my most meaningful experiences last year came from working directly with the campers and their families. When I’m not Kesem-ing, you will most likely find me at the pool or out-and-about in Norman (most likely with food in hand!). If you have any questions about Camp Kesem Oklahoma, please do not hesitate to contact us at oklahoma.outreach@campkesem.org and we will get back to you as soon as possible!

Danielle “Squirrel” Branesky

Hey there! My name is Squirrel and I am a pre-med Junior majoring in biology. This is my first year to serve on Camp Kesem exec, and I am so excited for this opportunity! My hobbies include painting, eating sushi (I consider eating a hobby!), and baking. I want to be an oncologist, so I love Camp Kesem because I believe in taking care of everyone influenced by a family member’s cancer. I couldn’t be more excited to meet all the wonderful kiddos attending camp this year, I know we will all have a blast!!

Dakota “Lulu” Enlow

Kylie “Juju Bean” Bolton

Hey guys! My name is Kylie, but you can also call me Juj! I’m a sophomore here at the University of Oklahoma double majoring in Energy Management and Finance. I dream of making something of myself and traveling the world. In my free time you could find me obsessing over One Direction and/or Harry Styles, watching Grey’s Anatomy or Titanic. or being silly with my friends. I am the Development Coordinator for Camp Kesem this year and it has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. I Kesem for the kids that think they can’t be a kid anymore. It was an amazing and life-changing experience last year at camp and I cannot wait to see everyone again and to meet all our new campers!

Administration and Programming:

Melissa “Bear” Doan

Hello all! My name is Melissa Doan. I am currently a sophomore Biology Pre-Medical major and Medical Humanities minor. I am so excited to be one of the Operations Coordinators and channel my inner-kid to plan a fun-filled and wonderful week for our campers. This is my first year with Camp Kesem and I cannot wait to see what it has in store! In my free time, I like to read, though my list of books never seems to get any shorter. I enjoy perusing Pinterest for new recipes to bake, eating foods of all types, and developing my amateur passion for coffee and photography. I Kesem in hope to touch the lives of our campers as much as they will touch mine. I can hardly wait to experience the Camp Kesem magic this summer!

Vy “Freckles” Pham

Hello! My name is Vy but several others also call me Freckles. I chose Freckles as my camp name because, oddly, I am the only one in my family with so many freckles on my face! I am a sophomore studying psychology with pre-medicine at the University of Oklahoma. My two favorite hobbies/interests are food and YouTube. Though I am a horrible cook, I love to eat. I always look forward to those long breaks from school just so I can try new foods and sample new cuisines with my “eating buddy” (aka my little sister). My second hobby is watching YouTube videos. Though I do not make YouTube videos, I enjoy watching people from all over the world showcase their unique talents in many different forms from cooking to art to film making. As an aspiring oncologist, I hope to heal patients and help return them to their normal states. However, in the psychological-sense, I believe that the children of cancer patients are also victims of this terrible disease. While I currently do not have the knowledge or expertise to treat patients with cancer, I believe that I am capable of helping the children who are indirectly affected by cancer. This is why I Kesem. Though cancer does not directly affect these children, it does take a toll on their mental wellbeing and childhood. I am extremely excited for camp this year because I want to give these children a chance to make new and wonderful memories, to get away from the every-day life, and to be a kid again.

Marketing and Public Relations:

Micah “Eunis” Graham

Hey friends! My name is Eunis, named after the identity I gave to the only thing I can draw – a unicorn! I am currently a junior at the greatest university in the world and I am a Marketing: Advertising major. My hobbies and passions include unicorns, hand-written thank you notes, Cheez-its and kiddos! Even though my major doesn’t have anything to do with kids, I spend almost all of my volunteer time teaching and spending time with little ones because I love them so so much. They teach me, help me grow, and
make me laugh more than anyone else in the world. I Kesem because the children I teach remind me how important it is to have a childhood and I want to make sure that every child has that opportunity, especially those whose parents have dealt with cancer. I cannot wait to see all of our hard work unfold and love our campers this year!

Volunteer Outreach:

Alexis “Bug” Apodaca

Well hi there! My name is Alexis, but you can call me Bug. I’m a freshman majoring in Human Relations….and the luckiest freshman around to be working with Camp Kesem my 1st year at OU! While I’m not Kesem-ing you can find me indulging in never-ending Netflix marathons, spending my college tuition on fuzzy socks, and weaseling my way into those super fun but “meant for children under 12″ bouncy houses. Minus the fact that CK is the greatest most amazing thing probably ever, I kesem for my
sister. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, and this summer my sister and I will both be attending our first camps EVER (of many!) I’ve already started counting down the days until camp, and I am so so so excited to see all the magic that unfolds! CAMP KESEM 4 LYFE

Alisha “Mermaidia” Dixon

Hey everyone! My name is Mermaidia, but you can call me Merms. I am currently in my third year at the one and only University of Oklahoma and loving every second of it. I am majoring in Microbiology with the intent of going to medical school after my undergraduate career. In my spare time I enjoy what many people consider torture in the form of exercise such as hot yoga, running, and light weight lifting; I also enjoy water sports, anything outdoors, the summer, and eating massive quantities of fruit by the pool. On a more serious note, I Kesem for a friend of mine who lost his father a little over a year ago to pancreatic cancer; in high school I would always hear him say “The sad part is never knowing if he’ll even be around to see me graduate,” and it was really difficult to see both he and his younger sister endure the emotional rollercoaster and not be able to do a thing to help. Camp Kesem really provides an opportunity for children to escape the worries for a week and surround themselves with other kids their age who understand what it is they are going through. I am so incredibly excited to meet all of the new campers and show them a great time at camp this year. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by an amazing team of directors and coordinators, and we are going to host one SUPER camp so spread the word! CK2014<3
