Q: What makes Camp Kesem different than any other summer camp?

A: To be honest, to its core, Camp Kesem really IS just like any other summer camp! We pride ourselves on the fact that Camp Kesem is supposed to be a place where you can escape from the craziness of home, school, and everything else, and just be a KID! The one thing that does make CK a bit different though, is that everyone who is attending has been through really similar situations in their lives. However, this makes CK even better in our opinion because many of our campers say that it’s given them a space to meet and make friends who they can relate to in ways that their other friends at home haven’t been able to.

Q: What sort of fun stuff is there to do at camp?

A: Where do we even begin?! Camp Copneconic (where we hold our two weeks of camp) is this crazy huge YMCA camp that has so many fun activities for us to do every single day. We don’t want to give too much of the surprise away, but let’s just say that if you like swimming, making (& eating!) s’mores, singing camp songs, zip lines, arts and crafts, bon fires, capture the flag, tubing, and MUCH more, then we’re pretty sure you’ll be able to find something to do at camp.

Q: I’ve never gone to an overnight camp before and I’m kind of nervous… What should I expect?

A: You should expect non-stop fun! Staying at a camp overnight for the first time can be a bit scary, but we will assure you that there’s nothing to be nervous about. If you’ve ever had a sleepover with friends, it’s a lot like that but for a bunch of nights in a row! Pretty much everyone stays in a cabin with their color unit and there will always be a few counselors staying with you too. Most of the time everyone is so tired from all of the crazy activities during the day that they fall right asleep when they get back to the cabins.

Q: What should I bring with me to camp?

A: There will be a checklist sent out to all of the families a few weeks before camp and that will have a complete list of what you should and should not bring. Be sure to check it over a couple times so that you don’t forget anything!

Q: I’m scared I won’t make any friends at camp because I’m new camper this year and don’t know anybody!

A: Everyone who is attending camp this summer was once in your exact position. It can be intimidating coming into Camp Kesem as a first timer, but your unit will make you feel right at home as soon as you get there. Even though the returning campers may know each other from years past, they are always eager to meet new campers and expand their CK family. The counselors were once newbies too, so you can always lean on them for advice or to help you make new friends with other campers! You might be nervous now, but we promise you’ll more than likely be sad to leave camp and all of your newfound best friends at the end of the week.
