During Camp

BIG REMINDERS:

  • Count kids from your cabin ALL the time
  • Counselors should avoid sitting next to each other – evenly distribute staff coverage as much as possible
  • Bang bang clap… (or other consistent method to get everyone’s attention during camp)
  • 3 strikes – counselors tell Unit Leader and Unit Leader keeps a log – Unit Leader needs to communicated updates to the rest of the counselors in unit
  • Have “bag of tricks” for transitions between activities to keep campers engaged (i.e. sing songs, 20 questions, etc.) – this will GREATLY reduce behavior management challenges
  • No campers calling home, campers may not have cell phones at camp – counselors need to check this on the first day of camp and hold cell phones for the week if any campers brought them
  • Go over 3 camp rules and 3 strikes policy before cabin chat first night of camp
  • Remember: after each strike – talk about feelings that led to the behavior – focus on the feelings, explore ways child can express those feelings in a safe way next time
