Get Involved with Camp Kesem JHU!
If you are a JHU student, Camp Kesem is an opportunity for you to build friendships, gain leadership skills, and contribute to your local community. We are a completely student run organization that provides a free week-long overnight summer camp for children who have or had a parent with cancer. Our camp offers students the opportunity to become either student members or student counselors.
As a member, you will:
Camp Kesem JHU has a 3:1 ratio of campers to counselors. For the summer of 2015, we would like to take 30-35 counselors to camp. The counselor selection process is very important in order for camp to run smoothly. Prospective counselors are expected to attend meetings as well as take part in events and fundraisers. All counselors are carefully screened by the camp coordinators and receive extensive training, so previous camp experience is not necessary!
The application for the summer of 2015 is out! Here’s a link to our application! Camp will take place from August 16th to August 21st, a total of 5 nights and 6 days.
Counselors are an important part of the camp experience and you could help us make the magic and really give some amazing kids a fantastic summer! Here are some of the parents’ thoughts on the impact the counselors had on their kids…
” My daughter had never been away from home for a night let alone a week. With the counselors help, she had so much fun and loved everyone she dealt with!”
“Counselors have been an incredible resource of strength for my boys, which I could not provide.”
If you are a community member in the Maryland area and are looking for a meaningful and fulfilling way to help the community, we are looking for volunteers to help with fundraising, publicizing, and advising Camp Kesem JHU. Community involvement is highly valued, appreciated, and necessary in order to make camp possible. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on how you can get involved.
Be part of the Camp Kesem JHU family by providing your expertise! Nurses on site provide medical help with allergies, emergencies, and other unexpected situations. Psychotherapists are there to provide counselors with help in situations involving unhappy campers, homesick campers, campers with emotional/psychological issues, and other cases. We have attached the following download links for each position! All lodging expenses will be covered.
Our advisory board is comprised of past CK members from around the country as well as our own chapter, who provide advice for anything and everything throughout the year. Camper parents and past campers are also welcome! As advisory board members, they help with fundraising, publicity, and many other important aspects that make the magic of camp possible.
