How does a typical day at camp operate?
Each day will have a different theme such as Superhero Day, Sports Day, or Space Day. Each morning at camp starts with cabin rotations between activities such as sports, arts and crafts, and outdoor adventure. In the afternoon there is a camp-wide activity. The evening ends with cabin chat.
What is cabin chat?
Cabin chat is a time where counselors and campers of an individual cabin have a chance to speak safely about their day and different questions dealing with their favorite activities, foods, dreams, fears, or, if they choose to, the effects of cancer. Cabin Chat is done with gender specific cabin-mates and usually occurs during the concluding 30 min of the day, right before lights-out.
Who will be the adults taking care of my kids?
There will be over 20 counselors college age providing a 3:1 or better ratio of counselors to campers. The counselors undergo an application process and background check before being selected. Throughout the year, they attend over 40 hours of training. In addition, there is a certified camp nurse, camp therapist, and camp advisor who are all college-graduates over 21 years of age.
How is the staff trained?
With the help of community members, our staff undergoes an intensive training process throughout the year prior to camp that focuses on facilitating positive group interactions, teaching how to deal with children in sensitive situations and creating a memorable experience for every camper. Our staff is also trained in first aid and CPR.
