Counselor Feature: Starburst
For today’s Counselor Feature we have one of our new counselors, Starburst, on why she joined Camp Kesem:
I was so excited when I finally found out that I was going to be a Camp Kesem counselor! Cancer has affected many people in life, including family members, friends, friends’ parents and I have been volunteering with cancer patients at Roswell Park Cancer Institute since my freshman year of high school. Needless to say, I had seen many of the struggles and hardships that come with cancer, and knew I wanted to continue volunteering with people affected by cancer. And when my dad was diagnosed with cancer my senior year of high school it only enforced that more. It’s really tough and scary having a parent with cancer because you really don’t know what’s going to happen, so when I came to Michigan and was introduced to Camp Kesem by Pluto, I was immediately drawn in. It’s truly amazing how much Camp Kesem does for these kids and to be apart of it really means a lot. The families who spoke at Make the Magic were so inspiring and kind. You could really tell how much it meant to the kids to get be with people who understand what they are going through, and how much it meant to the parents to be able to have a little down time. I honestly can’t wait for August to come, to meet the campers, and to have an awesome week!!!

Just an FYI: Camp countdown is at 19 DAYS (HOLY COW)! We can’t wait to see everyone on August 11th!
