Every day at Camp Kesem gives campers an opportunity to try something new, make great friends, and HAVE FUN!

Each Camp Kesem is a little bit different, but all of them follow a similar daily schedule. See below for an example, according to the University of Michigan CK.

Each morning bright and early, the admin team comes through and nicely wakes up the campers… with loud, fun music :) Everyone then gets ready for a new, fun-filled day as quickly as possible, because whichever cabin gets to the flag raising first gets to raise the flag.

Meals at Camp Kesem are always tons of fun! Three meals each day are prepared by the campsite staff, and most dietary restrictions can be accommodated. There is always time reserved at meals for some great camp songs – and for CK Michigan this usually involves a dance party as well!

During daily rotations, campers travel with their unit (boys and girls in the same age group) from activity to activity. Rotation areas typically include the ropes courses (high & low), arts and crafts, sports, water activities and adventure/nature. Each rotation is led by program counselors who plan a variety of exciting events for the week of camp.

Once during the week at Camp Kesem we have one specific time set aside for the entire camp to get together to acknowledge why we are here. This is a time for campers to talk to each other and share their stories – their fears, their accomplishments, their hopes and dreams. Anyone can talk if they choose to, but not everybody has to. It is a truly magical experience for everyone involved, and we always do something to show the campers that we are all in this journey together, as a family.

This poster we created out of leaves that everyone wrote a name on. These names signify someone we know who is or was affected by cancer.

Everybody needs a little down time! During “Cabin Time,” campers have a chance to relax with their bunkmates, do crafts, or write letters home. Cabin time is dispersed throughout the day to keep everyone’s energy level up (counselors included!)

At lunch we do the Web of Kindness, where any camper has the opportunity to share a story about someone helping them out, something awesome that they saw another camper do, etc. We create a web out of yarn that we add to each day.

Even though there are so many activities to be done at Camp Kesem, everyone gets a period specifically to rest so that they have enough energy to enjoy all those activities!

A favorite activity at Camp Kesem, swimming gives everyone a chance to cool off. Some camps have a pool, some have a lake, and some even have both! There are options available for children of all swimming abilities.

Similar to the morning activity rotations, each age group travels to a different activity together.

Campers enjoy exploring the heights on the zipline and high ropes course.

Campers get to choose where they want to go for their free rotation. This gives everyone a chance to spend a little extra time in a favorite program area, or try something new that their cabin may not have done that day!

Dinner is a great place to catch up with friends outside of campers’ own cabins. We encourage campers to sit with people outside of their cabins to ensure they make as many new friends as they can!

Did we mention we have themed days? This was Western Day!

Every evening, the entire camp participates in an all-camp activity, whether it be a giant game of capture the flag, a talent show, or a surprise event!

Before bedtime, campers gather in their cabins and have a “Cabin Chat.”  “Cabin Chats” give everyone in the cabin the chance to speak in a comfortable atmosphere about anything on their mind- from thoughts on their day at camp to their experiences at home.  Everyone is encouraged to participate.  Once Cabin Chat is finished, all of the campers and counselors go to sleep to get ready for another fun-filled day!
