AOL’s Make a Difference Feature
We are so excited to be featured today, June 23rd, on AOL’s Make a Difference Spotlight!
Camp Kesem (www.campkesem.org) is a national organization that provides a life-long peer support network for children affected by a parents cancer, anchored in a network of free summer camps that are led by passionate college student volunteers across the country.
With 1.7 million cancer cases a year in the United States, there are more than 3 million kids with a parent who currently has or has had cancer, or sadly, has passed away from cancer. When a parent is diagnosed with cancer, the entire family is affected. For children whose parents have this horrible disease, the joys of childhood are replaced with a new reality of cancer vocabulary, treatments and fears. Because they are neither physically ill nor visibly distinct from other children, these children are often quietly suffering, leading to feelings of isolation, low s elf-esteem and depression. Camp Kesem is the only national organization that recognizes and embraces this often overlooked population of kids.
Camp Kesem currently has more 4,000 kids registered for the summer 2014 camp season but still has 386 kids on the waitlist for our August camp sessions. With your donation today, you can help us send those 386 kids to camp this August!
