Camp Kesem is joining the LIVESTRONG Foundation as a beneficiary of the first-ever 550 Relay. The 550 Relay is a movement from each corner of the United States towards a common goal- helping all those in the cancer fight. Camp Kesem will receive 53% of funds raised from the event, and Camp Kesem UW-Madison will receive 50% of the money each runner we recruit raises for the effort.
The fundraising event will last from June 21 to June 25 and is the largest marathon relay ever attempted – 5 days, 50 states, 550 runners and 150 marathons a day for 4 days in a row. The goal is to run 14,410 miles and to raise $2.75 million to help people battle cancer. All 50 states will have a state captain, 11 runners and 6 interns, and runners can sign up as 1, 2 or 4 person teams for the marathon. Each state has a designated route that starts and ends at the state capitol.
Since partnering with the 550 Relay in January, 550 Relay has 61 runners signed up in 24 of the 50 states. Camp Kesem is responsible for 15 of these runners. 550 Relay has 12 State Captains. Of these State Captains, Camp Kesem is responsible for 4 in Washington, New York, Nevada and California.
